I am Love Fire Yoga - sole founder, director and teacher.

I am a mother, lover, humanitarian, artist, writer, runner, adventurer and seeker. I provide organisational management, governance, and leadership advice to individuals and non-government organisations, and learning support to children. I have an abiding love of yoga, meditation and the exploration of spirituality and expanded consciousness. I am a trained yoga teacher.

Practicing yoga and meditation, and with a curiosity about spirituality since I was a child, my first recollection of yoga is of my mother – the beautiful and amazingly creative and resourceful Renaissance person, mother, midwife, hospital director, violinist and singer, part-time farmer, writer, weaver and environmentalist! Jane Hearne - teaching women yoga in preparation for childbirth.

I started formal yoga classes when I first went to university in Western Australia. I continued with Satyananda Yoga when I moved to Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory, in 1987, learning more deeply about the range of yogic techniques and philosophy.

I gave birth to my two children through yoga and meditative breath and, continuing my own practice while they were little - when I could! - I was introduced to Tibetan Buddhism and learnt numerous Buddhist meditation techniques, Buddhist Tantra and philosophy over many years.

I have completed graduate and postgraduate study, with honours, in Arts, Science, Anthropology and Public Policy, and had a successful career with the Australian Government where, among other things, I was instrumental in establishing Australia’s landmark National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) which is radically improving life for many Australians. I have been deeply involved with Steiner education and was on the board of Canberra’s beautiful School for Rudolf Steiner Education, ‘Orana’.

After experiencing a huge awakening in my own life, in 2017, I happened to discover Kundalini Yoga. When full establishment of the NDIS was complete, I stepped out on a new journey, continuing to explore my true path, to now focus on humanitarian work, ‘helping other people to do what they want to do’, and promoting individual health, expression and freedom, particularly sexual expression, through my yoga, art and writing. I have been studying and practicing Kundalini Yoga and Tantra intensely since that time, including while working in the Pacific.

I aim to provide the space and the moment for people to feel, become and be, healthy, strong, powerful and agile; to see, source and feel, the peace, lusciousness, inspiration and wisdom of their own power, their own desire, and to gain the skills, and increase their confidence, to express it. I want to help them to be able to embrace and celebrate life in all its shades, seeing more and more of its exquisite beauty and gift; to experience pleasure and abundance. And to gain greater clarity about the precious life they want to live, their destiny.

I have taught yoga in many contexts, with beautiful little children and women in villages of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville; with professionals and international workers from all over the world, inspiring men and women who have never practiced any form of yoga, to pursue it further, and a diversity of people in Canberra, Australia, where I currently live.
I would love to meet you. And to sit on the mat and do yoga with you. Come and experience it with me!
With love, and lust for life!
Joanna Xo

Kind words..

I am so grateful that I crossed paths with Joanna who introduced me to Kundalini yoga.
Joanna’s ‘First Awakening’ course has been life changing. I have never felt more empowered and in control of life.

I’m looking forward to continuing and waking up to my full potential!
I would recommend Joanna’s classes to anyone searching for spiritual enlightenment.

JULIE KING, CANBERRA, AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

In the midst of the pandemic, I attended numerous private Kundalini sessions with Joanna Hearne.

I can very confidently say that these sessions with Jo improved the quality of my life.

Not only did I feel physically great and felt more energised in general, I also noticed improvements in my mental health and my ability to recognise my emotions/ moods/ behaviours and be aware of them.

I felt more confident in myself, I could recognise my ego and perhaps more importantly, I became more willing and able to love and cherish all facets of myself, my surroundings and my influences.

The list of benefits that comes from Kundalini yoga is endless, and to be guided by someone as gentle, as attentive and as knowledgeable as Jo Hearne is truly a privilege.

I cannot recommend Kundalini with Jo more enthusiastically!

LAUREN ROSE WILLIAMS, CANBERRA, AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

For the past five months I have been attending yoga classes taught by Joanna Hearne. Joanna both has a thorough understanding of several varieties of yoga, especially Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga, and is a gifted teacher. Most importantly, she provides instruction in the positions, asana, of yoga that is carefully calibrated to the capabilities of each student. Joanna both encourages the student to progress in the practice of yoga and fosters the student’s confidence in being able to move forward at his or her own natural pace.

In the course of my study of yoga in theory as well as in practice in India, Australia and other countries I have had many opportunities to meet several yoga teachers. Joanna ranks among the very best of those teachers. I recommend her courses very highly to anyone interested either in beginning yoga or in continuing with yoga to a more advanced level.

Jo leads with passion, grace, devotion and a gentle, yet intoxicating sensuality.

It has been my great honour to journey with Jo, both as her Kundalini teacher and as her friend and ally, over an arc of years. During that time, it has given me enormous joy to witness Jo blossoming magnificently into her path as a yogini and tantrika.

Her capacity to share the secrets of yogic wisdom she carries stems from her deep dedication to sadhana (personal yogic practice) and her ongoing cultivation of embodied consciousness, not only on the mat, but also beyond it.

During a class with Jo, you can expect to be guided with generosity, warmth and care to the hidden places of vitality, profundity, power and beauty within.

Jo will lead you to the sacred kernels of truth at the heart of your being - where healing lives and radiance awakens.
